How Do You Know if a House Has Issues?

I have been saving my money and trying to figure out how to find a house that I can afford. It seems as though when you think about it, the way to get a cheap house is to find a house which needs to have some work done to it. Obviously the guy who is selling may not be completely frank about that stuff with the guy who is buying. You have to worry about all sorts of things, like for example we have plenty of termites in NYC and they are just one type of pest. I know a guy who bought a house and then found out that the place had a big nest of rats in the basement. That is just one of the things that you have to think about when you look at a house with an eye towards buying it. The smart thing is to hire some person who really knows how to look over a house, obviously a house inspector is in the business of making sure that you know what you are getting into when you lay down the big pile of money that a house costs. I am not sure how much that costs, but since I have looked at a lot of homes I need to scrimp on everything. You have to hire the house inspector when you find the place that you really think you want to buy. If you are looking at two or three places every week and just trying to find a bargain, then you have to cut corners. So I am trying to figure out what I am supposed to look for when I want to make sure there are not any hidden problems. It is not fun, but you have to get some coveralls and go under the house as needed.
